WHAT ABOUT
PROVISIONS?
Bring
enough food to last a couple of days, then you can stock
up along the way at village stores or canal-side shops.
Alternatively, we have a large superstore next to our
base where food, drink and just about everything else can
be bought at supermarket prices!
DO
YOU PROVIDE BEDDING?
Each
berth has a vinyl covered foam mattress, three blankets
and a pillow with freshly laundered case. You can hire
sheets from us (see Booking Form Section E) or bring your
own. Most crews bring sleeping bags.
WHAT
ELSE IS PROVIDED?
All
boat fuel and Calor gas. All cruising equipment (except
waterproofs). A full inventory of cooking equipment,
crockery & cutlery Washing-up liquid and cleaning
materials, toilet rolls and bin bags. First aid kit.
WHAT
TIME SHOULD WE ARRIVE?
Weekly
boats should be available by 3.00pm. Short break boats by
2.30pm. Often they are ready earlier so aim to get to us
by 1.00pm. if you can.
WE MAY ARRIVE LATE!
If
you cannot get to us until after 3.00pm. to collect your
boat please let us know so that special arrangements can
be made to receive you.
CAN
WE HAVE LIFE JACKETS?
Yes,
provided FREE upon request in six sizes fitted
individually before you set out.
DO
WE GET BOAT INSTRUCTION?
Yes,
as much as you need FREE, see our Safety
and Tuition Page.
CAN
WE BRING THE DOG WITH US?
Yes,
well behaved pets who bring their own bed are welcome
FREE! Maximum two per boat.
WHERE'S
THE BOAT LICENSED TO GO?
On
all canals and rivers operated by British Waterways,
which means everywhere except the Rivers Thames, Avon and
Nene for which separate licences are needed.
WHAT
DOES THE STAR LOGO BY THE BOATS MEAN?
The Heart of England Tourist Board's
Narrowboat Standard scheme's purpose is to identify and promote those
narrowboats which you can choose with confidence and, through the system
of classification, acknowledge those that provide a wider range of
facilities. Boats are assessed annually by an independent inspector and
awarded stars as indicated on the individual boats layouts.
CAN
I FISH FROM THE BOAT?
Canals
are a delight for the angler, holding carp, roach, bream,
perch and tench. You will need an E.A. ROD LICENCE and
may have to buy a DAY TICKET. PLEASE ensure that you
don't keep LIVE BAIT on the boat!!

WANTS TO WATCH THE MATCH!
No
problem - monochrome TV sets are available see our price
list
(Section E) for details. Unfortunately reception on
canals and rivers is generally poor.
CAN
WE BRING OUR CANOES & BIKES?
One
canoe is allowed per boat. Bikes must NOT be stored on
the boats' roof but ONE may be carried in the well deck.
Ask us for details.
IS
CAR PARKING AVAILABLE?
Yes,
for cars and coaches and it's FREE for the duration of
your holiday at the owners risk.
WHERE
CAN I FIND MORE BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT CANALS?
We
sell a variety of Canal Guide Books, order them on your
booking form. Also have a look at CANAL JUNCTION. It's a comprehensive
Internet guide to canals, with information about cruising
skills, canal heritage, engineering feats, folk art and
culture etc. Why not get your group to do some
preparatory research!
